Reporter

Ugh. I just finished my first phone interview for the paper. It was simultaneously harder and easier than I had expected. The conversation flowed fairly easily, and I wasn't ever at much of a loss for what to say. However, I did stammer a few times, but I sometimes do that when speaking to people I've known my whole life. The hardest part for me was keeping up while taking notes. I'm slow with the pen, and this coach was giving me a lot of great stuff, and I just struggled to keep up. I actually missed out on some things, but I managed to capture enough for this story. . . heh. . . I just deleted a few lines in which I described a funny little exchange I had with the coach because as I was typing it I realized that maybe it was more of a youhadtobethere kind of funny than a greatformyblog kind of funny.

Anyway, I'm feeling really good after tonight. I can do this. And I will probably enjoy doing it. And I'm grateful for that (20).

  1. So do you get one of those hats with the word PRESS on it?

    That would be cool.

  2. Is there any way the paper can hook up some kind of recorder to the phone (or might have a phone with one built in) so you can record phone conversations? Then you could listen later and get anything you missed.

And, yes, I realize we are talking about a small-town paper here, but you never know.

  3. I was thinking shorthand, but his idea would work too!

Is someone saving articles for us, or do we need to get a subscription?

  4. z-man: Not yet. But I have my fingers crossed.
z-man: I don't know. I think I'll be alright with a little practice. Plus, I had a little bit of nerves going on and once I get past the nerves of my first few attempts I think my note-taking ability will increase.

tz: Sounds like there are plans to buyout Grunst when my first article is printed. Other than that, I think I'll probably be saving most if not all of my pieces so I can put together a portfolio in case I should ever need one. So you can look at those if you like. Of course, after a while it would get monotonous and you'll probably not want to read them anymore. But you may want to see the first few.
